HOW TO APPLY FOR MEDICAID

 

 MEDICAID AT A GLANCE 2014 REFERENCE GUIDE

(This reference guide is not to be considered as legal advice on how these guidelines may affect your ability to qualify for benefits or assistance.) 

 For the Applicant:

 

Maximum Allowable Monthly Income (for an individual)……$ 2,163.00

Maximum Allowable Countable Resources ... $2,000.00

Maximum Allowable Countable (Couples) Resources………………......$3000.00

 

For the Community Spouse:

 

Maximum Allowable Monthly Income ......................................… No Maximum

 

Protected Monthly Income for the Community Spouse is the greater of:

         a) 100% of the Community Spouse's personal income, or

         b) Up to $2,931.00 of the couple's combined income

 

Maximum Allowable Countable Resources: .........................… P.R.A.

 

P.R.A. = Protected Resource Amount for the community spouse is One-Half of the couple's countable Resources with a

         Maximum of .............................… $117,240.00*, or

         Minimum of ..............................…$23,448.00

Cash in Savings Account

Cash in Checking Account

Any Stocks, CD, Bonds

Any cash value on Burial Policies, Life Insurance Policies

 

Requirements

  • Need to meet Medical Necessity to qualify for assistance from the state
  • Need to meet Financial to qualify for assistance from the state
  • Can take up to 45 days to receive an answer from the state
  • Resident will need to give up their social security check and all their income to facility to help to contribute towards their care
  • Resident is allowed to keep $60.00 out of their income for their personal needs
  • Complete a Medicaid application with TDHS/DADS (see our Business Office)
  • Must remain in the facility for 30 consecutive days (hospital day also count)
  • Meet with TDHS/DADS case worker as directed
